This has been a moving week as we witnessed the heartbreaking images of violence, and the outpouring of peaceful protests in cities across our country. Many of us are asking what can we do to help our community, our county and our nation come together to end racial injustice.
The opportunities we need to succeed, the belonging we need to feel must apply to all - and the failure to apply these principles for so long to so many of our neighbors of color is a reality we can no longer ignore and must address - together. We acknowledge it will take hard work, part of which will include listening and reflection. And we know that is something we are absolutely capable of doing. In our work connecting veterans/military with community members we see time and time again how understanding and a sense of community grow when people listen and seek to understand one another. As we move forward in this historic time, we commit to seeking out opportunities to listen to those that have experienced prejudice and injustice. It is in listening that we can learn, and it is in learning that we can bring about changes that will put an end to racial injustice in our great nation.
